Hong Kong, 16 November (IANS). A fire in a building in Hong Kong killed at least seven people and seriously injured several others. The government here gave this information on Monday.
The fire broke out in a Nepali restaurant on Jordan’s Canton Road at around 8 pm on Sunday, reports Xinhua. The fire was controlled after nearly two hours of hard work.
According to local media, the casualties were mostly Nepalese and included a nine-year-old child.
An officer from the fire services department told in a press briefing on Monday that a gathering had taken place inside the apartment, while a police spokesman said they were investigating whether the complex was an unlicensed restaurant.
Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam said in a statement that she was deeply saddened by the incident. He has ordered treatment of the injured and investigation into the accident.
