Brasilia, 16 November (IANS). Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro cast his vote in Rio de Janeiro in the country’s municipal elections. This is the first voting taking place in Brazil during his rule.
On Sunday, Bolsonaro voted at a school near the city’s Villa Militare, reports Xinhua. He came to vote wearing a mask. All the other voters also wore masks. Coronavirus has so far infected 58 million people in Brazil and killed more than 165,000 people.
In recent times, Bolsonaro has publicly supported the outgoing mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Maserlo Crivella, a member of the Brazilian Republican Party.
Additionally, Carlos Bolsonaro, one of the president’s sons, is re-contesting as a councilor in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Mayors and councilors are being elected in 5,568 municipalities in Brazil.
