United Nations, 15 November (IANS). UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his message of the East Asia Summit 2020 on Saturday called on all countries to stop building new coal power plants.
“To reach carbon neutrality by 2050, I appeal to all countries to stop building new coal power plants and stop financing for its partners,” the Secretary-General said. Countries should end subsidies on fossil fuels. Our response to the Kovid-19 crisis must be combined with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the report of Xinhua, Guterres said that efforts should be made for Kovid-19 recovery.
He further said, an economy based on green climate will also create employment, which will reduce inequality and reduce air pollution affecting many Asian cities. I applaud the recent decisions of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, which state zero emissions.
Let us know that the East Asia Summit (EAS) is a regional forum, which is organized every year by the leaders of 16 countries in East Asian, South East Asian, South Asian and Ocean regions. Later, America, Russia etc. were also involved in this.
