New Delhi, 17 November (IANS). Several Congress leaders have started defending the leadership after Kapil Sibal’s attack on the party high command over the Bihar election result. Many people openly criticized Sibal’s public statement.
Haryana Congress leader Captain Ajay Singh Yadav attacked Sibal and said that Sibal cannot win even his Lok Sabha seat. Yadav also targeted Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Shivanand Tiwari to blame Rahul Gandhi for the defeat.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, there are many reasons for the election defeat. But every time Congress leaders have shown strong faith in the party leadership and that is why we emerged stronger after every crisis.
He said, Kapil Sibal did not need to raise the internal issue of the party in the media, this has hurt the sentiments of party workers across the country.
Gehlot said that the Congress is the only party that can keep this nation united and take it forward on the path of comprehensive development. We have rectified every crisis and formed the UPA government in 2004 under the able leadership of Sonia Gandhi. We will overcome this time also.
Party spokesman Pawan Khera said that Rahul Gandhi is fighting for an ideology.
On Monday, Kapil Sibal, who was one of the 23 leaders who wrote a letter demanding comprehensive reforms in the party, questioned the functioning of the party leadership.
He said that he was compelled to speak publicly as there is no forum to discuss the party’s issues. He also said that the Congress needs skilled and senior leaders to manage the elections.
His statement, which came in the wake of the party’s dismal performance in the Bihar assembly elections as well as the by-elections in various states, is being seen as a blatant attack on Rahul Gandhi’s team, whose team was involved in the election process was.
Sibal also expressed displeasure over the fact that no senior party leader spoke on the Bihar results.
