Bhopal, 17 November (IANS). Discussions of change in the Congress have started gaining momentum once again after the defeat in Madhya Pradesh Assembly by-election. There is a possibility that former Chief Minister Kamal Nath may quit one of the state presidents and leaders of the opposition.
By-elections were held in 28 constituencies of the state and the Congress was consistently claiming that it was certain to return to power through this by-election. Not only this, the party high command was also assured that the by-elections will make a major reshuffle in the state’s politics.
In contrast to the claims being made by the Congress, the results of the assembly by-elections have come and these results have made the state organization to the party high command uncomfortable. The party high command has taken the report from state president Kamal Nath.
If party sources are to be believed, the areas where the Congress has suffered defeat, along with the presidents of those districts, the election in-charge of the assembly may also fall. Not only this, the big leaders of the organization can also be missed. After the Congress came to power in the state, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath had asked to leave the post of state president, but the party high command had asked him not to do so in view of the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, the party was out of power and lost in the by-election to the Vidhan Sabha. The party high command has also made up its mind to change the state president or leader’s opposition with the consent of Kamal Nath.
Among the top contenders in the Congress state presidents are former Union Minister Arun Yadav, former ministers Umang Singar, Kamleshwar Patel, Ajay Singh, Jeetu Patwari, Meenakshi Natarajan. At the same time, the party wants to hand over the command of the state to such a person who is a confidant of the high command, as well as his consistency with Kamal Nath. On the other hand, if Kamal Nath leader leaves the post of opposition, then the responsibility of this post can be handed over to the Scheduled Tribe MLA.
Political analysts believe that it is not easy for Kamal Nath to raise the Congress firmly in the state, he himself knows this, which is why he can leave one of the two posts. They can keep the organization strong while the president, if the leader is the opposition, the hold on the organization will be weakened. Therefore, there is a possibility that Kamal Nath leaders should leave the post of opposition and keep themselves state president and give new strength to the organization of the party so that the elections of panchayat and urban body can be fought with full force.
