Yangon, 17 November (IANS). The ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party, chaired by Myanmar state councilor Aung San Suu, has committed to fulfill the aspirations and needs of the people on Tuesday. The party won a landslide victory in the general election held here on 8 November.

In its first message to the people after the official announcement of the election result, the NLD said it would try to implement the three goals described in their manifesto. These three goals are to settle ethnic matters and achieve internal peace, establish a constitution to create a democratic federal union, and strive to achieve sustainable development and security.

The NLD party won a majority in this year’s general election by winning most seats in the three-tier parliament.

According to the election results announced by the Union Election Commission on Sunday, the NLD party secured 920 seats out of 1,117 parliamentary seats in the election.
