Gandhinagar, 18 November (IANS). 11 people, including six women and a child of the same family, were killed and over a dozen injured in a road accident early Wednesday at Waghodia intersection near Vadodara, Gujarat. police gave this information.
The accident occurred when an Eicher truck carrying about 25 to 30 members of a family collided with a tanker at around 3 am for a pilgrimage from Varachha area of Surat towards Pavagadh.
Almost all the passengers were injured and were taken to SSG Hospital. A dozen of them are hospitalized in Vadodara, where two of them later succumbed.
Confirming the deaths of two seriously injured patients, hospital superintendent Dr. Ranjan Iyer told IANS, a total of 11 people have died in the Waghodia road accident. Five of the 15-16 persons brought to the hospital have been shifted elsewhere at the request of relatives.
“At least two of the injured are children,” he said. The operation of a girl Devanshi is done in the orthopedic section. The condition of one of the admitted patients is serious due to stomach injury and is under 24-hour monitoring, while the rest is fine.
At the same time, DCP Zone 3 (Vadodara) doctor Karanraj Singh Vaghela had earlier said, nine members of an Ahir family were killed – five women, three men and a child. Around 24 to 25 injured persons were rushed to the SSG Hospital after the accident, where nine were declared dead. All are from the same family. Most people were sleeping at the time of the accident. We evacuated them with the help of medical and fire personnel. A FSL team will visit the accident site.
Vadodara Collector Shalini Aggarwal, SSG Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ranjan Iyer and former Vadodara Mayor Bharat Dangar also visited the site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed their condolences to the bereaved family via Twitter.
Modi said, I am saddened by the accident in Vadodara. My condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I wish the injured to recover soon. The administration is providing all possible help at the accident site.
