Gandhinagar, 18 November (IANS). Nine people, including five women and a child of the same family, were killed and at least 16 others injured in a road accident early Wednesday at the Waghodia intersection near Vadodara, Gujarat. police gave this information.
The accident occurred when an Eicher truck carrying about 25 to 30 members of a family from Pilot area of Surat towards Pavagadh was hit by a tanker at around 3 am.
Almost all the passengers were injured and were taken to SSG Hospital. At least 16 of them are hospitalized in Vadodara.
DCP Zone 3 (Vadodara) doctor Karanraj Singh Vaghela said, nine members of an Ahir family were killed – five women, three men and a child. Around 24 to 25 injured persons were rushed to the SSG Hospital after the accident, where nine were declared dead. All are from the same family. Most people were sleeping at the time of the accident. We evacuated them with the help of medical and fire personnel. A FSL team will visit the accident site.
Vadodara Collector Shalini Aggarwal, SSG Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ranjan Iyer and former Vadodara Mayor Bharat Dangar also visited the site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed their condolences to the bereaved family via Twitter.
Modi said, I am saddened by the accident in Vadodara. My condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I wish the injured to recover soon. The administration is providing all possible help at the accident site.
The Chief Minister tweeted, Sad for the people killed in a road accident near Vadodara. The officers have been instructed to help the needy. Those who have been injured, get well as soon as possible. Pray for the departed souls. om Shanti.
