Amravati, 20 November (IANS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday raided 25 locations in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district and Hyderabad in the illegal limestone mining case, including the houses of former Gurjala MLA Yarapineni Srinivasa Rao and associates.
The CBI said in a statement that several secret documents, mobile phones, physical objects and cash were recovered during the search.
Apart from Rao (55), a former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA, the CBI has also raided the locations of 17 more people associated with the case.
The statement said, CBI handled 17 cases of illegal limestone mining from CBCID in Andhra Pradesh and registered a case against 26 accused on August 26, 2020.
According to the principal investigating agency, Rao and the other accused conducted illegal and unauthorized mining, quarrying and transportation of limestone.
CBI officials said that illegal mining has been going on for many years in Konkani village of Pinduguralla mandal and Nadikudi villages of Kesanupalli and Dachepalli mandal, Guntur district.
The statement said, this caused revenue loss to the government and other licensed lease holders and also exploited natural resources.
