Ranchi, 19 November (IANS) In Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district on Thursday, an elephant suddenly attacked Adhikari, killing him. Also, four of his colleagues were also injured in the incident. Actually the elephant was separated from its herd, after which one of the remaining elephants attacked the people.

The incident took place in Sonalatand village in Chauka area.

The herd of five elephants was causing trouble for the villagers for the last few days. Following the complaint, a five-member team of the forest department reached the village and began to drive the herd towards the forest. During this time an elephant broke away from the herd.

Four elephants were banished from the village, but the fifth elephant suddenly attacked Haricharan Mahato and died. The other injured members of the team were rushed to the hospital by the villagers.

Every year hundreds of people are killed in elephant attacks in the state.
