Cairo, 20 November (IANS). Egypt looks forward to participating in the next round of trilateral talks with Ethiopia and Sudan on dam construction on the Nile River. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry gave this information.
According to the news agency Xinhua, the statement of the ministry came after the conclusion of a virtual meeting of the foreign and water ministers of the three countries.
The ministry said Egypt wants to reach a binding legal agreement on operating the Ethiopian giant dam as soon as possible.
It also highlighted the need to reach a fair and balanced agreement achieving the common interests of the three countries.
During the final round of trilateral talks held earlier this month, Egypt expressed dissatisfaction as there was no progress in the negotiations.
Ethiopia began construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in 2011, raising concerns of downstream countries such as Sudan and Egypt.
