Chennai, 20 November (IANS). Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K.K. Palaniswami handed over the ancient idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana to the Sri Rajagopalaswamy temple in Nagapattinam district on Friday.
On November 23, 1978, the idols stolen from the temple returned to their original residence after nearly 42 years.
Later these statues were unearthed in London, which were handed over to the Indian High Commission there.
The sculptures from London were sent to the Archaeological Society of India in New Delhi and then brought back to the temple.
Palaniswamy also appreciated the efforts made by police officers to recover the stolen idols on the occasion.
