Mumbai, 21 November (IANS) The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested comedian Bharti Singh on Saturday evening for allegedly possessing and consuming prohibited drugs (marijuana).
A top official said that on Saturday morning, Bharti’s house was raided and he was arrested in the evening after receiving drugs.
“We have arrested Bharti Singh,” NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede told IANS. About 86 grams of marijuana (hemp) has been found from them. Her husband Harsh Limbachiya is currently being questioned. We will inform you of further developments.
Marijuana is said to be in commercial quantities (about 86.50 grams), which was recovered from their home during the raid. It is being told that Bharti and her husband have confessed to consuming drugs.
In fact, the NCB arrested two drug peddlers on Friday night during the investigation in the drugs case. The interrogation of these people revealed the names of Bharti and her husband Harsh, after which their house was raided on Friday morning.
The NCB conducted raids at their homes in suburban Andheri’s Lokhandwala complex and at least two locations in Versova and thoroughly searched the premises to find banned drugs (marijuana).
He was then detained and summoned to the NCB office for further investigation, where he arrived there in separate vehicles.
On arriving at the NCB offices on Friday afternoon, Bharti Singh briefed the media persons that they had been called for some questioning.
After continuous questioning for nearly five hours, Bharti was arrested late in the evening, while her husband Harsh is still in question.
Bharti will be produced before the court concerned on Sunday. However, it is not yet clear whether she will be taken to court or she will participate in the court proceedings through video conference.
