Chennai, 21 November (IANS). Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai on Saturday afternoon. He was welcomed by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and other ministers.

Tamil Nadu BJP leaders also received Shah at the airport. On seeing the BJP and AIADMK cadres standing on the roadside outside the airport, Shah walked up to the road and waved his hand.

The Tamil Nadu government said that Shah will dedicate a new water reservoir to cater to the needs of the residents of Chennai. Along with this, many other projects will also be laid.

The new reservoir, to be built with Rs 380 crore, will be dedicated in Kalivanar Arangam under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. Apart from this, Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail costing Rs 61,843 crore, elevated Rs 1,620 crore expressway project in Coimbatore, expansion of Chennai Trade Center (Rs 309 crore), petroleum terminal of Indian Oil Corporation in Vallur (Rs 900 crore) , A Rs 1,400 crore lube plant, a Rs 900 crore terminal at Kamarajar Port and a Rs 406 crore check dam along the sluice gate across the Kaveri River in Karur district.

Shah will meet Tamil Nadu BJP officials and workers ahead of the 2021 assembly elections. His visit comes after the NDA’s victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. Tamil Nadu BJP unit chief L. Murugan had claimed that Shah’s visit would instill fear in opposition parties.
