Washington, November 21 (IANS). The White House has announced that US President Donald Trump will participate in the virtual G-20 summit on Saturday and Sunday.
Global leaders are trying to stop the Kovid-19 epidemic and meanwhile the summit is being held.
During the G20 summit, global leaders will discuss preparations for the epidemic. During this time leaders will also share their vision to create an inclusive, sustainable and better future.
As reported by The Hill News website, the White House has confirmed the president’s participation on both days of the summit. However, it is not clear what programs he will attend.
King Salman of Saudi Arabia will preside over the summit, which is originally held in Riyadh, but due to the epidemic it has to be conducted in a virtual or online manner.
This will be Trump’s last summit with global leaders as president before he leaves the White House on January 20, 2021. He lost to his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the recently concluded US election.
Major media outlets speculated for Biden as the winner of the November 3 presidential election. He has won more than 270 electoral votes needed to win.
However, Trump has alleged rigging in the elections and claimed that the election was fraudulent. He has not yet accepted his defeat and has moved the court alleging rigging in the election count.
The summit is taking place at a time when the whole world is struggling with coronavirus infection. According to Johns Hopkins University, the total number of global coronavirus cases has reached more than 57 million, while over 13.6 million people worldwide have lost their lives due to infection.
According to the university’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) in its latest update on Saturday, the United States is the worst-ranked country in the world with 11,908,395 cases and 254,383 deaths.
