Srinagar, 22 November (IANS). On Sunday, Srinagar recorded the coldest night of this season. The mercury here was minus 3 degrees Celsius.
“The minimum temperature in Srinagar today was minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest temperature so far this season,” Sonam Lotus, director of the Meteorological Department for the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh union territories, told IANS. It is minus 3.1 degrees below normal.
The cold winds from the icy mountains were blowing in the valley on Sunday morning, so most of the locals preferred to stay indoors to avoid the harsh cold.
The MET office has forecast rain / snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh since Monday, with the main activity taking place on 24 November. Gulmarg ski resort recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.4 on Sunday and minus 2.6 at Pahalgam hill station.
The Dras town in Ladakh’s Kargil district with minus 15 was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh union territories on Sunday. While the minimum temperature was minus 12.3 in Leh town and minus 8.5 in Kargil.
Jammu division recorded 7.2 in Jammu city, 7.0 in Katra, 2.3 in Batote, 1.0 in Banihal and 0.2 in Bhaderwah on Sunday.
