World Bank Chief welcomes progress of G20 on debt relief | World Bank chief welcomes progress of G20 on debt relief

Washington, November 22 (IANS). World Bank Group President David Malpas said that he is very happy to see the progress the G20 Group has made on debt transparency and debt relief.

During the 12th G20 summit hosted by Saudi Arabia via video conference on Saturday, Malpas said, “These are important, positive steps for development, and I’m happy to see constructive responses from major lenders.”

The G20 supported the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) in April to help the poorest countries in response to the Kovid-19 epidemic.

DSSI was extended by six more months in October.

Last week, G20 finance ministers and central bank governors committed to DSSI in close coordination, stating that maximum assistance would be provided for DSSI-eligible countries.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that the country supports the G20 decision on the expansion of DSSI, and will continue to implement it fully with other parties.
